How to setup Reference Ranges for Lab Results
You can setup reference range for Lab results and associate them with custom text. This text will then appear in patient notes as well as in lab order printouts. Let us see how this is done.
Ex: We want to set up a HbA1C Test, along with a reference range.
1. Go to Tools and click on Clinical Item Parameters. Click on Add New to create a New Parameter Detail.
2. Enter the parameters details:
_Example.
Name:_ Glycated Haemoglobin (HbA1C)
_Unit of Measurement:_ _%
Clinical Section: Investigations
Type: Numeric
Max Length: 3
Track Values in EMR: Check ON_
3. Scroll down and you would next need to enter the reference range. Let us say for HbA1C it as follows:
_Below 6.0% is Normal__
Enter it as follows:
Select Normal Value
Age From and To: Leave as Blank
Normal Range: < 6.0
Gender: All
Display Text: Normal_
_Click the +button to save the entry**.**
_
_6.0% to 6.4% is Prediabetes
**Enter it as follows:
Select Abnormal Value
Age From and To: Leave as Blank
Normal Range: < 6.0
Gender: All
Display Text: Prediabetes_
_6.5% or over is Diabetes__
Enter it as follows:
Select Abnormal Value
Age From and To: Leave as Blank
Normal Range: > 6.5
Gender: All
Display Text: Diabetes_
Once done it will look as follows:
3. Now associate this parameter with a Clinical Group. You can do so by going to Tools and click on Clinical Groups. To add the created parameter above click on Add New.
_Name:_ _HbA1C Group
Clinical Section: Investigations
Type: Make it blank
Add Parameters: Select and add the parameter added in the step above ie HbA1C._
4. Now associate this parameter with an Investigation. You can do so by going to Tools and click on Investigations. To link the parameter click on Add New.
Name:** _HbA1C
Link the Investigation to Clinical Group: Select the HbA1C group created in the step above._
_5._ You are done**_._** If an investigation is now ordered for HbA1C you will able to see the parameters that we had created above with custom text when the result is being recorded. Example: A value of 7 is being flagged as RED as the parameters set for it is “_abnormal_” for result value >6.5 and text is set to “_Diabetes_“.
Click on save to record the result.
